Thursday Thirteen

Thirteen Things I love about February!!
1. It's my birthday month!! (8th)
2. Valentine's Day - even the kiddo's are nice to the teacher that day!
3. It usually snows!! (hee-hee! It is right now!!)
4. It's a short month...
5. ...which means, Spring is here before ya know it!
6. Trip to Hot Springs is usually fit in (for my b-day!)
7. PRESENTS!!
8. Chocolate is everywhere!!!! (teachers get LOTS of chocolate on Valentine's Day!)
9. Valentine Cards - awww!
10. Horse races
11. I am that much closer to Spring Break! ha!
12. Love is in the air...(for at least one day anyway)
13. Did I mention my birthday???

It's SNOWING!!!

Yippee!!! It's only light right now, but it's still snow!! I have to tell you that the kids at school and myself will be VERY disappointed if we are at school tomorrow! We just know it's going to be a snow day!!!
*Tip for all my bloggin' parent friends:
Here's the story (short version!) ~ I have a student in my room who is constantly picking on kids, inappropriately touching girls, disrupting the classroom, you name it. We will call him trouble student ~ seems appropriate! I have sent him to the office numerous times. It doesn't really do any good. Today, I had a set of parents come to my room with concerns because their child was getting sick every morning and not wanting to come to school anymore. Why? B/c trouble student was bullying him everyday! These parents have a special needs child who really isn't able to take up for himself and doesn't communicate well. I'm sure you can guess how sneaky my trouble student is, so I didn't know he was picking on this child. I told the parents to please voice their concerns to the office. I explained to them that them going to the office instead of me going would get more done! And bingo - the child is suspended for 5 days!!!! So - parents, of course, talk to the teacher first, but take it to the office if it doesn't get better!! Sometimes we have tried, but they don't listen to us like they do you!!!
On a sweet note, several boys in my class have offered to keep an eye on their classmate to make sure he isn't being picked on or bullied! (and yes, I told them not to get into fights with anyone ~ to just bring the situation to my attention! ha!)

It's Monday so soon?

How does the weekend always go so fast, and the work week is so slow??? It was hard to get up this morning ~ so COLD!!! But, maybe this week will bring that much need "No school snow day!!" The chances keep going up everytime I watch the news. Teachers are just like kids when it comes to snow days! There is nothing better than waking up and seeing your school's name scroll across the bottom of the screen as CANCELLED!! and going back to bed! An unexpected day off! It could happen!!! hee-hee! You better believe my 3rd graders will be doing a snow dance on Wednesday! :-)
I had a great weekend! My scrappin' buddies came over Friday, and we ate, scrapped, giggled, and girl-talked. Then we stopped for the night about midnight (early for us), and came back on Saturday for more! We ended up starting about 11am and scrappin' until 6pm or so. Don't hate me, but I got completely caught up!!!! My 2006 album is finished ~ Christmas and all! It weighes a ton! It really is too thick, but oh well! I will be dangerous if I ever have kids! My albums are huge without them!!! yikes! Anyway - now I get to start working on all the old albums my Mom gave me of hers. I am going to get all the old pictures out of those magnetic albums (b/c those will eventually ruin your pictures!) There are some awesome old family photos in there! I am looking for a scanner at the moment (actually have one picked out and am watching for it to go on sale!). Then, look out, because some of these pictures will be posted on here!!
Ok - going to catch up on some tivo! I have the worst headache tonight ~ it was screaming kid night at TaMolly's! ha! How about Grey's Anatomy last week?????

A Trip Down Memory Lane

Today Kevin & I went to church in Newport at the church we went to as little kids ~ it was really neat to walk in and see things THE SAME! Everything looked the same except for the number of people in the congregation. I can remember Sunday School when we were little and having children's Church in the room off to the side. We had Christmas plays and did little choir performances. Then, when we hit teenager stage, we all sat on the back row and passed notes and got in trouble! :-)
There were a few people there that I recognized. I am HORRIBLE with names but can almost always remember a face. Kevin worked the room the minute we walked in ~ this is where he & I are WAY different! I would have walked in and quietly sat down and just observed people. I wouldn't have dared to walk up to anyone b/c I would be sure they wouldn't remember me. Kevin walks straight up to people and shakes their hands and introduces himself and strikes up a conversation. I admire people that can do that b/c I just can't!!! Now get me in a room with friends or family and I don't shut-up! ha! By the time Kevin was finished, we ended up getting announced as guests by the preacher before the service started! (Of course the biggest difference b/t years ago when we went and today ~ there were only 27 people in the church total!!) It was kind of sad b/c all the energy was gone. There wasn't a need for children's church b/c there weren't any kids! But, it was neat to go back in time for a bit today!!! (and of course, see Kevin!!)

Comments Fixed!!!

Some of you emailed b/c you couldn't comment this week. I had changed the setting due to spam! Hate spam! Anyway...I think I have fixed it back to where anyone can comment AND still keep out spam! Thanks once again to Lindsay!! She is the bomb!
Now let's hear those comments, or I'll be so disappointed!!!!
Happy weekend! I'll be in scrapbook heaven!!! LOL!

who's computer is this anyway?

When I am on the computer, this is where he is!! It's a good thing I have a wireless keyboard and mouse! ha! But it sure makes my 3 hour master's class that is over the internet interesting!!! This is the battle I am about to wage tonight! ha!

Thursday Thirteen

13 Things that Annoy me...
(I have PMS! Hence this 13 post! ha!)
1. People who drive slow in the fast lane ~ move over already!!
2. Smacking!! URGH!
3. People who blow their nose at the table! Gross!
4. Borrowing stuff and not returning it!
5. Cell phones during movies ~ turn them off!
6. Telemarketers
7. Unnecessary rudeness ~ Wal-Mart seems to be the best place to experience this!!
8. People who say they are going to do something and then don't!
9. Dial-up ~ so glad I got rid of that! I can't stand being on the computer at Mom's house! (She can't help it ~ they live in the sticks!)
10. Loud talkers
11. Long lines ~ and I always pick the worst line! ha!
12. Talking with a mouth full of food ~ yuck!
13. People who always think they are right!! (especially if they usually are! ha!)

This and That...

Nothing very exciting to report this week but some regular 'ole life this and that stuff! I will say (knock on wood) that my kids at school are now going on week 2 of good behavior!!!!! I am loving every minute of it! And....crazy Mom from about 2 weeks ago, showed up today and was sane! She went to the office first and just came to my room with paperwork. So, all is good there! (Sigh of relief!!)
My doggie crisis continues with my high maintence boxer! He is still peeing in the house and the vet has cleared him of anything medically wrong. We are thinking he has separation anxiety now that his best buddy is gone. Yep, only I could have a dog that needs doggie prozac! LOL! Sometimes you gotta laugh! :-) Just ask Kevin ~ His fork-lift broke down today, and he had to be a human fork-lift!!! Yikes!
Scrapbook night with the girls is this week, and I am ready to scrap!! We are doing a two-day scrap PJ fest this time! Friday night and Saturday! We are so dangerous!! Ha! If you feel your ears burnin', we might be talkin' about you! (only the good of course!!)
Ok - gotta go! I have my fav neighborhood kids over here wanting my computer for I-tunes! (They burn good mixes and keep me hip ~ so OK, they can have it!)

Dog Day!!

Today started out volunteering with BoxAR rescue at Petsmart. Of course, I wanted to bring both of the dogs we had with us home!! Ripple, the brindle boxer, was a sweetheart!! He just wanted to be loved on the whole time. Shawna also brought Tara ~ the 5 mo. old boxer/lab mix that she is fostering. Tara wouldn't let Shawna out of her sight, so I am pretty sure that dog is already in her forever home! Ha! It was fun & is always neat to see all the different doggies! Here is our booth we sat up:
Then, on the way home, I stopped off at Alan's because his buddy wanted me to clip his Great Dane's toenails. Isn't she gorgeous? They call her P-Dog, which I think is too funny! Her name is actually Penelope (sp?) but that is too long to say, so they call her P-Dog! Anyway - I took Jax over to meet her b/c she is so laid back. The idea being if he couldn't get along with her, he couldn't get along with anybody! And you guessed it! He can't get along with anybody!! The dumb dog doesn't even come up to the underside of her belly & STILL tried to attack her! So, he is an only "fur child" for the rest of his days. Crazy dog!!!

Weekend Plans?

Any exciting weekend plans? I heard on the news it is opening weekend at Oaklawn!! That means my birthday is getting near & every year me & the girls head to Hot Springs for some fun! This year we are having a hard time with schedules though! ha! Anyway - the picture is us last year (my Aunt Kim, me, Peggy, my Mom, and Sandy). I think Mom and Kim always win!!! It sure isn't me, but I have fun! Looking forward to the trip again this year!!
My excitement for this weekend will be waiting on the cable guy ~ he'll be here between 8 am and noon! I love how they do that to ya! If the weather isn't yucky, on Sunday, I am volunteering with the Boxer Rescue to take some doggies to Petsmart to hopefully generate interest in finding them forever homes!! However, they are calling for some winter mix! Yuck! As a teacher I always get to stay home in that stuff!!! ha! And of course, the one time I don't want bad weather b/c it's teacher workday on Monday, it will probably snow!!
Everyone have a great weekend! I hope next week is as peaceful as this week in my classroom!! :-)

Doggy Update

Just a quick fyi that Jax is back to normal! It was crazy how sudden it came on!!! He was still swollen & had huge whelps this morning. By the time I got home from work, he was MUCH better. His sweet little face is back to normal! Whew! I still don't know what the heck he got into though!!

Tuesday, January 16, 2007

Oh No!

This has just come on all the sudden & within about 2 hours my poor baby Jax is all swollen!!! I do not have a CLUE what he got into. He has barely been outside b/c hates the cold and doesn't waste time if you know what I mean! ha! I am guessing he must have stepped in fire ants or something. The yard will be checked in the mornin' when I can see!!! I've given him some Benedryl and hope he's better by the AM or back to the vet we go!! I just wish they could talk sometimes!

Good start!

Technically today was the start of the week b/c we were out yesterday for MLK day. AND....drum roll......they had a good day today!!! I am hoping that I am not jinxing the rest of the week, but we actually made it through the day without drama!! No fits!!! No fights!!! We can do it! The worst thing today was talking & I can handle that. As a matter of fact, the girl who kept yappin' all day left me a note at the end of the day:
Roses are red,
Violets are blue.
Will you forgive me
for acting a fool?
Hee-hee! Cute!!
In other good news, I was brave enough to talk to the 2nd grade teachers today. They assure me that if I can make it through this bunch, next year will be a breeze. YIPPEE!! Maybe I can stay one more year. I'd really like to b/c then after that, I want to move into a library spot anyway.
Speaking of library spot...my only grief in the past two days has been trying to get the Centra program installed and running on my computer! URGH! I have to have it for my masters class this semester. It is really driving me crazy!! And, of course, the help desk isn't available when you call! Computers!!!
In funny news (I thought so, but Kevin probably didn't): Within an hour of the city slicker driving a fork-lift yesterday, he got it stuck! LOL! They had to come pull him out!! And yes, the good 'ole boys were having a good laugh! :-) He did manage to work a 13 hour day outside in the COLD, COLD weather yesterday. Not sure how fun he is thinking this is now - but he is earning some money!!
Ok - gotta try to get this darn computer going before Thursday night's class!

And my birthplace...

Kevin & I drove up to Kennett, Missouri this weekend b/c I wanted to see the town where I was born. You know how you hear the stories & need a visual. I just remember everyone saying the roads were icy, and it took forever to get there. Apparently, Piggott ~ where my parents lived at the time ~ didn't even have a hospital. Hence, the drive on icy roads to Kennett. Kevin's mom told us that 33 years ago, the road to Kennett wasn't even paved yet! Now that makes you feel old or really country! ha!
We did drive past the hospital but I didn't take a picture of it. Then we went to this really neat flea market (the 2nd picture above) in an old bank building. The stairs were marble and the staircase was so cool. Upstairs were more treasures & they had a section of Sheryl Crow clothes. She donates her clothes to them, and they give the money to the Children's Hospital. That was pretty neat! And by the way, Sheryl Crow is TINY!! The woman has no waist whatsoever!! So, needless to say, I didn't buy anything. (but it was fun!!)

Bob the Builder?

Or prison work release program? HA!

Kevin is starting his new job as a fork-lift driver tomorrow (Monday)!! hee-hee! You know I had to tease him about it, so when I showed up on Friday, he had on his work clothes (to impress me I'm sure! ha!) First pair of steel-toed boots this boy has ever known! He thinks this job with required over-time is going to be fun ~ I'll let ya know if he's still smiling by the end of the week!

Seriously, he is doing pretty good. He has a no-nonsense sponsor, great support, and now a job to keep him busy!! We are all very hopeful that he is on the path to recovery!!

I'll be pulling for ya this week Kevin! (but giggling at the same time picturing you driving a fork-lift!!)

Venting...

It seems I'm doing alot of that since I returned to work this week....a HUGE sign to me that it is time to move on at the end of the year. Here are the highlights of my day(besides waiting on the crazy mom to show up from being turned in for neglect): *Very disrespectful boy in my room - so I sent him next door to a male teacher for time-out. This usually works out ok. He smarted off to him too. When the teacher tried to talk to him about his attitude, the boy just shrugged his shoulders and said, "so,I can just walk out of here right now!" AND HE DID!! So, me and the teacher called security to find him. You know what his punishment is???? He came back from the office with apology letters for me & the other teacher. Only one line apology letters at that! Isn't that special? This is the same child who was just in the office the day before for fighting on the playground and swinging at two adults who tried to restrain him. He is really learning his lesson huh? *Fast forward to lunch & I had another little boy hit another child in my class in the nose. He had to be sent to the nurse b/c his nose started bleeding. You know what the punishment is for that???? He misses his next two recess periods!!!!
Well I've HAD it! So, I decided why should wait and rush around to get out of town tomorrow? I am taking off at 11:30/half day & heading out of town early. It's not like I can teach anything anyway!!!!!!!!!! URGH!!
Oh, in other news, took the peeing dog to the vet today & turns out he has a bladder infection. I feel kind of bad b/c I thought he was just being stubborn!
Gotta run - my masters class starts tonight! What a week!!!

Thursday Thirteen

13 of my favorite things:
1. Dr. Pepper (best with Sonic ice of course!!)
2. boxers (the dog)
3. my flat iron (hate my hair without it!)
4. gift cards!! (best idea - love 'em at Christmas!!)
5. my camera (Kodak Easyshare Z740)
6. my cell phone (what did we do before those?)
7. bubble bath
8. down home southern cookin' (yum!)
9. tivo (LOVE it!!!)
10. peanut M&M's
11. Sugarland CD's (just puts me in an "up" mood)
12. automatic cat box (best invention ever!!)
13. comfy Levi's

Ramblings...

My work week is stressing me out!! I gotta tell ya, if I win the lottery tonight, I am going into the office tomorrow & saying, "I'll stay if you remove child A, child B, and child C from my room." I can just imagine the teaching I could do then! The test scores would rock & my sanity would be intact!!
Short version of today: One of my boys got into a fight on the playground & when the teacher's aide went to break it up, he swung at her. She had to restain him and send kids for the security guard. Then he swung at the security guard! Ended up in the office...yada, yada...DIDN'T GET SENT HOME! Big message here to ALL the kids who saw it happen!! And the highlight of my day was one parent in my room was turned in for neglect. It's only the 3rd day back & I'm exhausted!!
Since I'm on frustrating or stressful subjects - here's another one (and please send advice on this if you have it!): Since Rocky died, Jax has started having accidents in the house. I am taking him to the vet tomorrow to rule out UTI or anything medical. I don't think it is that b/c he can hold it for 10 hours at night when I'm home. But he gets upset when I leave and goes tinkle in the house. This is really on my last nerve!! I can't get him a new buddy b/c he hates other dogs. What the heck am I supposed to do? Does anyone have a doggy door or advice on that? I was thinking of trying that. Anyway - I'm READY FOR FRIDAY!!

Basketball Saturday

Ethan - Kevin's 13 year old nephew
Austin - Kevin's 10 year old nephew (dark blue)
Having two or more kids must get challenging at times! I wouldn't know b/c so far I've stuck to just dogs & cats! ha! Saturday, I met up with Kevin's family in Searcy b/c both of his sister's boys were having basketball games all day. The schedule was insane! Ethan is on two different leagues and one was in a tournament!! It was a good day to witness the benefits of having an only child! ha!
*on another subject: (b/c I know how some of you get a kick out of my school stories!)
I had my troubled student today walk up to a girl in the class & show her a picture from a book with two rabbits mating. He pointed to the picture and told her "this is what I'm going to do to you and your friend." This is a child who has only been back from suspension for two days!!! URGH! He did pick one of my sassy girls though who promptly replied with hands on her hips, "no you are NOT! I don't even like you!" Phone calls home already! Welcome back!

Back to Reality

I didn't win the lottery Saturday night, so back to work I had to go this morning!! That alarm clock was a sound I wasn't looking forward to at all!! I had some serious Monday mornin' blues after being off for over 2 weeks ~ a girl can spoiled in that amount of time (or lazy! ha!)
I felt a little bad for my lack of enthusiam after reading some of my kid's journals today. (Although, I do admit to being happy to see them once I got there!) Here are two of the journals from today that made me go awwww....and get a little sappy!
This one is from one of my boys!! Shocker!! Ha! "You are the best teacher in the whole world. Thank you God for Ms. J" from Keith. If that isn't a welcome back to work, I don't know what is! Made me forget all about that blaring alarm this morning!
Here's the other one from one of my girls: "Today I will do a poem. Roses are red. Violets are blue. I love you so much. You are a good teacher too!" hee-hee! Now I got excited about this because we were studying poetry before we left for Christmas. Someone was listening!! ha! I love it!
Here's hoping for a good week & getting back on a routine!
oh, and today marks one month without smoking!!!!! YIPPEE!!

At it again!!!

Look at this squirrel!! INSIDE THE FEEDER!! ha! It was driving my cat crazy watching from the window. I know the squirrels make some people so mad, but I just decided a long time ago I was feeding them as well as the birds! They really crack me up!

5 Things You May Not Know About Me...

Another tag topic from Lindsay's blog that looks fun!
Here goes:
1. I sleep with a night light. Yep - it started once I moved into this new house (not new anymore been 2 1/2 years). And now, I can't sleep unless I have some sort of light. Crazy!
2. I am a car snob! Don't know how that happened either!! I mean my first car was a Ford Pinto that costs Dad $75 & I've had some bad car stories! But somehow over the years, I became a car snob! A man in a black yukon with a dog hanging out the passenger window is just really is sexy to me! ha!
3. I am a taxi service to my neighborhood kids. Just took one to basketball practice & will pick him back up in about 30 min. When their parents get in a bind, they know they can just ask me, I'll take 'em. (and I don't mind!)
4. I wear contacts. This always freaks out my kids at school. I can't see very far away at all without them! And I feel like a big geek in my glasses, so I really only wear them at home.
5. I LOVE to eat! I am not one of those girls that eats a salad and picks at her food. If I go out to eat, I am getting my money's worth! ha! I am a meat and potatoes girl, BUT I don't like my food to touch. I'm weird! :-)

Progress...

Caught 'em!! Simba has been trying to buddy up with Jax. (Simba & Rocky were big buds!!) I know that Jax and Simba are both lonely without Rocky, but Jax just wasn't having it. This past weekend at the kennel must have him rethinking things! ha!
Happy Weekend Everyone!! :-) This is my last weekend before the kids are back on Monday. Then the real world hits!! urgh! UNLESS, I win that lottery Saturday night! ha! (In which case I won't blog for awhile b/c I'll be on an extended vacation!!)

Thursday Thirteen

Best & Worst of 2006:
(in no certain order!!)
Starting with worst so we end on a good note! :-)
Worst of 2006:
1. Having to put my beloved Rocky to sleep (one of the hardest things I've ever had to do!)
2. Jax having to have surgery almost immediately after losing Rocky. I was afraid I was losing both my boys at the same time!
3. Throwing my back completely out this summer and not being able to move!! That was painful!
4. Breaking up is hard to do ~ enough said!
5. Kevin's relapse
Best of 2006:
(the good stuff!!)
6. SUMMER ~ I had the best, carefree summer & made lots of neat new friends!
7. Watching Mom & Autumn together at the horse shows!
8. Having turkey day on my new deck instead of the garage ~ compliments of all my hard workers who volunteered to help!
9. Scrapbook nights with my girls every last Friday of the month ~ always look forward to those girls' nights!
10. Getting a CUTE physical therapist when my back went out (that was the joy in that journey! ha!)
11. Reconnecting with two of my oldest friends after a lapse of losing touch ~ Todd & Kevin.
12. Winning Teacher of the Year at the end of the school year.
13. Finding that I can open myself up to the possibility of "happy ever after" after all...

Squirrels!!

Every year these critters give me a run for my money with my bird feeders. One year they completely chewed through the rope the bird feeder was on & I have since caught on to using wire!!

Today I walked out on the deck to change the bird feeders & found a huge mess! It is kind of funny! (b/c if Kevin were here I'd probably have blamed him for the mess! ha!) There were pecan shells all over the back deck ~ as well as empty bird feeders! I guess I brought them (the squirrels) in a few days ago when I filled the feeders. Well ~ Kevin has had a 5 gallon bucket full of pecans sitting on the backdeck. I had forgotten them, and the squirrels finally hit pay dirt and found them! They must have had a good 'ole time & called all their buddies in for a party on the pecans for new years! That bucket was no where near empty, but it is empty now except for a few shells! I just wish I could have witnessed them in action!!!

New Year's weekend...

I have talked to several friends in the past two days, and it's official...we are gettin' old! ha! But in good news, we don't care & we like it!! I can remember when plans for new year's eve was a huge deal, & we all started a month in advance figuring out what we were doing. Now, we are all snuggling in at home watching movies with those we love ~ seems much smarter & a better deal to me! (and yes, that we are getting old!!)

I went to the big town of Rector for new year's ~ I thought there were only about 300 people that lived there to let you know how small it is ~ but the pop. sign says 2.000 ~ I think they were counting the dogs & cats to get that!!! Kevin & I watched some movies (The Break Up ~ which he HATED & Talladega Nights ~ we had watched it on our first date - FUNNY movie!!). The night before we went into the city (sarcasm) of Paragould and watched The Pursuit of Happyness with Will Smith. Great movie!! His kid in real life plays his son in the movie & is just precious!! I recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it! You will find yourself really pulling for him to make it!

Anyway...I tried boarding my spoiled, rotten dog with my friend Bonnie, who owns a kennel. He has not boarded in years b/c Alan keeps the dogs for me when I'm gone (but hello - it was new year's!!) or we have had a house sitter. I wanted to see what Bonnie thought about him getting a new buddy since he lost Rocky too. Bonnie is also like the dog whisperer so if anyone would know, it would be her. Well, he showed his ass! Bonnie was sweet about it and even tried not to charge me! (She was temporarily insane from all the diarrhea she had to clean up!) Yep - that 's right, he made himself sick! A momma's boy!!! He was so mad that right off the bat, he pooped and peed on the blanket she gave him - then he made himself sick!! I have created a monster!!! And as for a buddy, he didn't make any friends at the kennel! He went in thinking he was Mike Tyson and tried to fight them all. Then, he decided to ignore them UNLESS they barked at him and then he turned on them again! Poor Bonnie! As I'm typing this, I think I should send her bonus pay! LOL! And if my two sitters are busy again, I guess I ain't going nowhere! ha!

Happy New Year!!

It's the first day of the new year & that means time for new year's resolutions!! I'm going to be realistic with mine! I am actually continuing the ones from last year b/c I only just got a good handle on them in the past month! ha!

For 2007 I will:
*not smoke!! (today marks 3 weeks of no smoking! I am on my way!!)
*find a small church to start attending
*keep on living life, enjoying the journey, and giggling daily!!!!

I have to say even with a few bumps in the road (and hey, that is what keeps life interesting!), last year was a good year for me! I am happy, healthy, independent, have a great family & awesome friends! Can't wait to see what 2007 has in store for me!!!
