Who's the Dipstick?!?

"Should I do it? Think he'll run off?"
"Let's see what he does if I put my foot up here!"
"He's not moving! I'm going for it! Wait, I can't pull myself over!" (This is where Kevin steps in and shoves me over, but shoves too hard and I go flying over to the other side! ha!)
"You think I should've done this in these shoes?"
"I did it!"
And, Dipstick never stopped eating! ha! Yes, that's right, HE'S the real Dipstick - not me! LOL!

Scrapbookin' and critter weekend!

This was my monthly girls scrap weekend! yay! We had really, really GOOD food this time too ~ we always manage to eat well on scrap night, but this time, we really outdid ourselves (or my girlfriends did! I went to Abe's Feedhouse and bought some yummy cinnamon rolls ~ ha!) My friend, Laura, made the most awesome chicken enchilda's ~ yummy!! Anyway ~ we ate until we were stuffed and then managed to get some scrappin' done!! Then, Saturday morning we all (but one) got up and went to a scrapbook warehouse type sale. HUGE savings!! I got $120 worth of stuff for $31! How exciting is that! After another yummy meal for lunch (can you tell how I love to eat a good meal? ha!), I headed to Newport to see the folks and hopefully get my hitch finished (no such luck - need another stinking part! I am slowly starting to hate this hitch business! URGH!)
Mom and Dad were at the horseshow trying to get the horses used to the arena and noises and stuff. I got some pics, actually quite a few from the weekend...there are kittens in the barn, horse show pics, and the colt is a month old this weekend...I am too tired to make a slideshow tonight. But I will tomorrow...here are a few until then: Dad is riding Cherokee and Mom is riding Milly. Aren't my parents cute? :-)
And Kittens...awww...I loved 'em!

A challenge for you...

Something really nice happened to me today, and I have to share b/c if I were still writing in my journal, I would write about this. A friend of mine sent me an email. We all get email everyday from friends, I know. But this email was out of the blue and really was touching, and uplifting, and well, it almost made me cry! (I probably would have if I hadn't been at work!) First, let me share the email (hope she doesn't mind! But you know, no topic is safe from the blog! ha!) After you read it, you will understand how it changed my day and then I will tell you my challenge~

Hey Girlie!

I just wanted to take a minute to tell you how proud I am of you. You have gone through a lot in the last few years and risen above all of it. A lot of people would not have pulled themselves back up as you have done. Your pain has not made you bitter. Through all your own troubles you have kept your compassion for others and have always been there to offer a helping hand to those who needed it. You continue to strive to better yourself even though you have accomplished more than many. You are a good friend, a teacher, a home owner, a proud pet parent. You make a budget and stick to it! Even with your busy life you make time for yourself. You enjoy life.
You are an inspiration.
I thought someone needed to tell you ...

Wow! First of all, what a great friend, advisor, listener, and inspiration of strength she is to me!! I just kind of sat back and thought that was really nice to hear! I am so swamped right now with work and my Masters that I am just ready for it to be next week and my final and interim reports to be over! This email made me SLOW down today! It will all get done...no need to rush! Then I thought, there are so many people close to me that I love and admire but really have never taken the time to tell them just how wonderful they are...this is where my challenge comes in! Let's all take a time-out and email or call at least one person in our life and tell them something positive about themselves - give them an uplifting, positive message. I bet it will make their day like this did for me!

Decisions...

"Hmmm...what should I bring Mommy next?"
"Should I find the pond toad and catch it for her?"
"OR...Maybe she'd like one of these goldfish!"
Ha! Simba is quite the hunter these days!! He does, luckily, leave my goldfish alone. He only stares them down!

Crazy, but true! I really just started blogging to easily share pictures with family and friends. Now I am hooked, and it has even taken the place of writing in my journal. It now IS my journal! However, I didn't and still don't always know some of the blogging basics - apparently for your 100th post, you write 100 things about yourself, then you post it in your sidebar. Weekend Adventures

Let's just start with Friday - I'll try to keep it short! I took a "mental health" day from work. I thought I would start by mowing the yard (& then play all afternoon! ha!) I mowed three rows and the mower quit and was smoking! It has been on its last leg for awhile. So...I weedeated and figured I'd suck it up and price some lawnmowers that afternoon (not something I enjoy spending money on!). First, I had a fun lunch with my buddy, Peggy. We rode the downtown trolley and had lunch outside on the balcony of one of the restuarants downtown. That was fun - it was a beautiful day! I also managed to get my bill of sale, title, and insurance done for my new pop-up camper. THEN, I looked for mowers. Found one at Lowe's - even called two back-ups for advice on what to do. (because it was used - i.e. returned) You know where this is going! Ha! We all agreed it was a good deal - troy bilt, self-propelled, mulcher, ez-start, two year warranty still, yada, yada. I got a $269 mower for $150! I was pumped! I had time to mow before Kevin got into town, so I got home and started mowing. All was well...I was truckin' it. I got the back done - moved to the front - THEN, suddenly my self-propelled mower became a push mower!! URGH! Then, I even saw a puff of smoke when I tried to restart it! My neighbor came to the rescue and fixed it. (I have the BEST neighbors!!) But the mower was returned to Lowe's the next day & now I still need one! But the yard is mowed, so I got two weeks at least to figure it out! LOL!
Saturday was full of adventures - long stories short. Kevin and I managed to pick up my camper and bring it home, return the lawnmower to Lowe's, drive to the meat market in the neigboring town, realize neither one of us had our wallet, discover Kevin has lost his, then we find his wallet (he left it at the grocery store!), buy plants for the garden, put in the garden, finish up a flowerbed and clean out some gutters - whew! Teamwork ROCKS!
Here is a picture of our plants for the garden: After much discussion on where the garden should go, Farmer Brown got to till up the dirt and start work. I have a case of Type-A personality (no snickering!) & the garden needed to be centered - who cares about the sunlight? HA!Our finished product - with squash, tomatoes (big and small), zuccini (sp?), rosemary, basil, and I am sure I am forgetting something! Now I have to keep it watered and weeded! yikes! And last, not a part of the garden, but dinner Kevin cooked us after all that work! The boy can COOK! YUM! The neighbors even called to see what smelled so good coming from my backyard - not a normal occurance! ha!
See the strawberries behind the meat? yummy! Strawberries and ice cream for dessert!!!!

And today was a day of rest! (After Church and lunch with Sandy, Troy, Tanner, and Hunter)

I knew it would happen!!

Look at the prize Simba brought in through the doggie door! I don't know how long it has been inside instead of OUTSIDE! ha! Poor thing - it was breathing so hard, and you can see his tail is long gone! I put him back outside but noticed this morning that he didn't make it. Simba wins again! This time of year chasing, catching, and torturing lizards is Simba's favorite pasttime. I knew that he would eventually bring one inside. He snuck one past me last year without a doggie door! ha! It was funny b/c it was still alive and well. The minute I got him to let it go - it RAN! Then, me, Simba, and two dogs started chasing it! Of course, I was screaming the whole time! (hee-hee! Not quite the country girl my Mom is!) Anyway - I'm sure this isn't the last lizard to find its way inside. As long as he doesn't start torturing snakes, I'm ok!!!
Who me? I didn't do it!

To the world, you may be just one person.
But to one person, you may be the whole world!

It's Testing Week! yuck!

It's benchmark testing week - yuck, yuck, yuck! BORING! I hate it as much as the kids but don't show it! (of course) My room is driving me crazy - the desks have to all be separated and everything on the walls either taken down or covered. It is so ugly right now!! Tomorrow is the last day - thank goodness! It is so hard to be quiet from 8 am to 11:30 am - for ME and the kids! LOL! My kiddo's are impressing me though, just walking around, we prepared well for the test!

Oh- remember my master's project that caused me so much grief? The one I thought I was finished with after HOURS of work and turned out I wasn't and had to go back in and do more. Well....I got my grades this week and I made an A!! hip-hip hooray! As of right now, I have an A in the class. I have to make an A on the final in two weeks to keep my A in the class - no pressure! ha!

Look for pics on Monday - Kevin is coming to town this weekend & we are going to be busy bee's in the yard! I shouldn't give my honey-do list on here just yet in case he catches up on the 'ole blog before the weekend...he may decide he has other things to do at home! HA!

Doggie Thoughts

Yesterday, I got an email from one of my friends - a friend that also treats her critters like family. My heart is aching for her, because she had to make that difficult decision to put not one, but two of her elderly "fur kids" to sleep. You know, some people think I'm nuts for treating my critters like I do and how spoiled they are (I really don't care b/c I didn't get to have kids & they ARE my kids!) But my friend, Debbie, takes spoiling her "fur kids" way beyond what even I do! (if you can imagine!) Trust me, if you are a dog, you want to live with Debbie! She rescues abused and abandoned dashchunds, and not a one could want for anything once they make it to her doorstep!! Her dogs have their own room!!! I am NOT kidding and when she tells them it is bedtime, they each go to their spot, and she tucks 'em in!! So, you can imagine how this is breaking her heart to lose two of her babies in one day. They did have a good, long life - no doubt about that! EmiLou was 18!! and Daisy was 16!! Wow! For those of you reading this that know Debbie - she has requested not to receive condolences right now b/c she can't handle it yet, so please don't email her. I'll be happy to pass anything along for you when she's ready!
It did make me miss my Rocky yesterday when I heard the news & brought back all those memories of having to make that decision. It is so hard - even when you know in your heart it is the right thing. I am crying as I type this b/c I see his smiling face, and I miss that dog so much and those big brown eyes!!

All of us in my spoiled, rotten critter household, send Debbie doggie slobbers, kitty purrs, and hugs!

"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion."~Unknown....

Autumn in Action!

It's a little blurry (because I was trying to hurry!) and dark (because of the arena), BUT here is a 20 second video of Autumn in the pole bending competition. They have to follow a pattern with the poles in the best time. (Sergio broke the pattern, and this is actually her making him do it over anyway! She gets that from her Grandma! ha!)

Horsin' Around...

This weekend was Autumn's (my niece) first horse show of the season. It was cold and miserable weather, but we toughed it out for her! Me, Sandy and Kayce made it our Saturday afternoon adventure. It was Kayce's first horse show, and she ate it up!! She was lovin' it! You know I took my camera ~ so here are some pics from the day! (Note how city girl Kayce dressed the cowgirl part for the day! too cute!)

We were exhausted when we got home!! The three of us city girls went out to eat when we got home, and all of us almost laid our heads down on the table and went to sleep. (And we weren't even the ones riding & keeping up with the horses!) I know Mom and Dad are tired b/c the horses were acting crazy all day ~ first time out for the year and the weather was nuts! Those shows go on for hours too! We watched her in four events and there were many more to go!!
Today was fun too ~ me, Peggy, and Sandy went looking at open houses. For no other reason than to get decorating ideas and look at paint colors! ha! Of course, it always makes you want to build or buy a new house! ha! We all found a builder we love to build our new houses when I win the lottery....speaking of...I've gotta go check those numbers! :-)

Friday Favorites

**First thanks for all the support yesterday!! It was NEEDED and appreciated! My troubled student is back in Alternative School until the 22nd, and then going to a camp for troubled youth. This is great news b/c it will provide him individual counseling as well as family counseling!

Because I don't like to focus on the negative for too long, my Friday Favorite this week is....

Favorite Classroom Story of the week!

hee-hee! I thought this was too funny! I got this email on Monday from a "parent" that I stay in regular contact with through e-mail...

hi Ms.J ,can you E_ mail me about how Talk _alot is going to do this week at any time.

Now I didn't think it was odd that she referred to her daughter as Talk_alot b/c we have nicknamed her "Ms. Talk-a-lot". I did think to myself - man she must have been in a hurry when she typed this (she doesn't normally make typo's in her emails).

I got this email from the REAL parent this morning:

Hey I found out that Mrs. Smarty pants has been checking my e-mails. She figured out my pass code. The e-mail below was sent by her, not me. I just happened to look at my sent mail and realize that I had not e-mailed you on Monday and she was at home. I tell you I don't know what we're going to do with her. Anyway I think she knows better than to do that again, but can you believe that, I said boy what is she going to be doing by the time she gets to high school. : ) Ichanged my password so I don't think that she can get into it anymore, but just in case if you see any e-mails from me that look suspicious, please let meknow.

HA!!! Now how funny is that!! I love it!!! What a good laugh after the day I had just the day before!!!

Serenity NOW!!

**WARNING - LONG, rough school day!**

I thought I was going to literally lose my mind today! By 8 am, my nerves were shot! Not a good sign!!! My child that has returned from Alternative School has made us all miserable for the past 5 days that he has been back. I just don’t get it! But here is a glimpse into classroom life with him there:

7:45 “sit down please and start on your daily oral language”
7:47 “sit down please and get started on your work”
7:48 “find your seat”
7:49 “Ms. J, he just hit me when he walked by”
“sir, you have a check, will you please sit down?”
7:50 “SIT DOWN & get busy!”
7:55 “Ms. J, he won’t turn around and leave me alone!”

URRRGGGHH!!

Then, we go to PE for an hour. As I pick up my class, the PE teacher says, “Ms. J, this student has a behavior document!” (guess who???) “He was sent to time-out for bothering people (he CANNOT keep his hands to himself!) and he tore up the tape on the floor marking spots for games. When I asked him to sit down repeatedly, he told me NO!” (well, at least it isn’t just me!)

Back to the room we go with me taking deep breaths, praying for patience…I knew I was gonna need it today! And of course, even though his seat is the first one in the door, he can’t seem to find it AGAIN!! So after about 10 minutes of struggling to get in our seat and start on our work, he decides to just get up and leave…URGGHHH!! Keep in mind, I have 22 other kids who actually want to learn, and I have to spend all my time just keeping track (aka babysitting) this ONE child who NEVER manages to do ANY work ALL DAY!!!! I want to scream! So….I get him back in the room and in his seat after repeating myself at least 4 more times and feeling my patience start to fly out the window! Then, he antagonizes one of the other children….that’s it! We aren’t getting anything done, so I try to get him up and in time-out in another room – suddenly he doesn’t want to leave his seat! (deep breaths again!) I get lucky and see an administrator in the hallway – I rant that I can’t teach, testing is next week, this is ridiculous, etc., etc….He assures me the office is on it and to keep up with my excellent documentation of everything! I’m thinking “I’ll try if I am still sane by lunch even!”

Back to the room, and now my lovely student is MAD. He doesn’t want to do his work, so he throws it all in the floor. Ok – fine! I decide it is a losing battle and I choose to teach the other 22 kids. We tune him out. (shortly…) He starts to bang his desk against the board – BANG, BANG, BANG – over and over and over. (many deep breaths I take now & try to keep on teaching over the noise) The kids even ask him to please stop so they can hear! (God love ‘em!) I asked him to stop – it’s like we aren’t even talking to him. So, I go over and scoot his chair and desk back away from the board. He promptly moves them back and starts banging his desk against the board, BANG BANG BANG! URGHH!! No amount of deep breaths is gonna help me now – I feel it – I am about to snap! I buzz the office that they need to come and remove him so I can teach. BANG BANG BANG – I think I am going insane!!

The office comes and he refuses to move – imagine that! Security comes and he finally goes AND then he decides to get upset and cry. And get this - says, "my desk just kept hitting the board." YOU THINK??? I am sorry but I do NOT feel sorry for you now buddy….I give WAY more chances then I should!! URRGGHH!!

Anyway - he didn’t come back the rest of the day, and by lunch my sanity was semi restored. I think he is going back to alternative school….It was either he leaves or me today – there are 40 days left of school and I have 39 sick days…(cough, cough) or rather mental health!!!

There – I got it all out – thanks for listening!

FUNDRAISERS!!

Who can resist a face like that?!!?
Believe it or not, most boxers are not as spoiled as my Jax! (keep your snickering to yourself!) A friend of mine over at Life with L introduced me to Boxer Rescue years ago. We used to be board members (important folks!), but now she has kiddo's keeping her busy, and I am working on my Master's. So, we've dropped down to "volunteer" status. (still important though!) Check out any local shelter or rescue in your area, I bet they need volunteers!
ANYWAY...Please check out our website because we have several EASY fundraisers happenin'!! For example, there is a search engine like google that you can use that gives the boxers a penny every time it's used! Hey - that adds up! And how easy is that!?!
Go to the website linked here and check out the other cool stuff!
You can help a needy boxer and feel good about yourself all at the same time!

WARNING: Too Cute!!!

My cousin has the cutest little girls!! I got a chance to see them this weekend b/c his oldest is as horse crazy as my Mom and niece, so I took some pictures of the new colt over for her to see. His youngest (who is just precious!) entertained us with some songs & let me video her. So....here she is singing the Carrie Underwood song "Before He Cheats".

Easter Weekend

Saturday I slept in and then headed to see Kevin & of course, stopped in on Mom and the new colt along the way!! It was a nice day despite being too cold for April!!! Mom and I went to lunch and stopped & got some pics developed of the colt. Going to Wal-Mart in a small town can take awhile b/c you run into everyone!! ha! I have gotten used to zippin' in and out of stores. And I just HAD to run into an old boyfriend - yuck!!! I am horrible at small talk - horrible!! And Mom was no help at all - you could've helped out a little more Mom!! I think she liked watching me squirm! LOL! I managed to get away & then we went back home and tried our best to get Stormy to let us catch him. No luck! But I got some cute pics of him at a week old!

Today, we went to church, and I didn't get to wear my cute Easter outfit b/c it was too cold. Crazy weather! I wanted to be sure to be at church in Rector for Easter Sunday b/c they do this stick ministry that soooo neat!! Kevin's Dad had said they would do a really good Easter morning performance, & it didn't disapppoint! I really need to get a video of it to show how truly cool it is!! The kids today apparently were hopped up on chocolate before church b/c you couldn't hear the message due to all the kiddo noise - my A.D.D. kicked into overdrive with all the distractions!! I wanted to just start spanking some kids! hee-hee! (see this is easy to say b/c I don't have kids!) After church, Kevin's Mom spoiled us all with a delicious lunch, so delicious, that you just had to nap to recover from it! :-)

Hope everyone else had a great weekend!

This and That...

Well...I am just now getting back to normal from Spring Break. Today is the first day I feel awake away! It ain't easy getting back on a schedule! ha! I did manage to get all my to-do list done over Spring Break, which feels good!!! I finally got my hitch on my Jeep, BUT (you knew it wouldn't be that easy!) the wiring kit Dad got was wrong....so.....now we have to get a different wiring kit and figure out when he can install that. THEN, we will finally be able to pick up the new camper!! Soon, Kim, Soon! I promise!!! :-) I am ready to get it home and set it up and get all my camping gear ready for the season. Ahhhh....good times ahead!!
Oh - I did manage to watch some of my DVD's that have been sitting there for years waiting to be watched! I can't seem to make myself sit still for that long very often, but after a hard day of working in the yard, a movie sounded good. (although some of them weren't!) I would recommend In Her Shoes and First Wives Club (funny). I also watched In Love and War with Sandra Bullock & it was ok. The worst movie was Friends With Money - don't even bother on this one!! It was one of those that you think "surely this is going somewhere", well, it didn't!
Nothing else really happening - having a good week at work, just busy with all the reports due. And, my big security dog was terrified of the storms last night and had to sleep in bed with me to keep from pacing...I am a sucker - I know! Ha!
Oh...and tomorrow I am getting highlights in my hair! yikes! You know, I am not a very good girly girl, but I am starting to see grey hair & this is supposed to hide it! Wish me luck! Around 6 o'clock tomorrow, I'll either love it or not want to go to work the next day! ha!

Critters Galore!!

I get my animal loving trait from my Mom, & we have passed it on to Autumn (my niece)!! I got pics of all the horses and the cats while at Mom and Dad's on Sunday. I didn't get the dogs this time!! But we all know where I get my love of boxers from!! ha! So Mom - this post is for you - enjoy!!

Back to the real world of work....

Today came early with the blaring of the alarm clock & hitting snooze again and again....then back to work and averaging grades, report cards due, parent conferences to prepare for, and my kiddo from alternative school came back. So...let's just put all that away and relax with a short video of the new colt!! (no judging my video skills - it is a camera video - and he was moving around quick! ha!)

Last Day of Spring Break! :-(

Sadly, today is the last day of Spring Break, but I couldn't have asked for a better one! I spent a quiet, peaceful day at the parent's place with the kitties and new baby horse. (Which I reported to be a girl yesterday but is actually a boy! So we have a colt not a filly & now he has a complex b/c we thought he was a girl for a day! ha!) Enjoy the show!
