Two Reviews

Ok - I went to see Bolt, the new Disney movie with the dog that thinks it has super powers (voice is John Travolta) and "his person" is the voice of Miley Cyrus. The hamster, Rhino is hilarious too. Well, the cat was too. They all had their moments. I honestly laughed out loud several times. You gotta go see it. I promise if you don't laugh, you will at least smile! Thanks to Sandy and Kayce for inviting me to go with them!!

I also finished the book I've been reading this week - woo-hoo! I haven't gone back to see how many I read this year yet. The year is coming to a close and my New Year's Resolution was to read more throughout the year and not just on holiday breaks. I've done a little better, but it's hard when I am taking classes to read for fun! :-(

Ok - the book: The Lucky One by Nicholas Sparks

From the jacket: When US Marine Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a smiling young woman half-buried in the dirt during his third tour of duty in Iraq, his first instinct is to toss it aside. Instead, he brings it back to the base for someone to claim, but when no one does, he finds himself always carrying the photo in his pocket. Soon Thibault experiences a sudden streak of luck, winning poker games and even surviving deadly combat that kills two of his closest buddies. Only his best friend, Victor, seems to have an explantion for his good fortune: the photograph - his lucky charm.
Back home in Colorado, Thibault can't seem to get the photo - and the woman in it-out of his mind. Believing that she somehow holds the key to his destiny, he sets out on a journey across the country to find her, never expecting the strong but vulnerable woman he encounters in Hampton, North Carolina - Elizabeth, a divorced mother with a young son - to be the girl he's been waiting his whole life to meet.

What I thought: I was in the mood for somthing light and this was a good, light read. I admit it was a bit predictable and the ending wraps up all nice and neat. But, it was a feel good romantic story, so that's sort of why we read them. Right?

An ordinary day...

Nothing major happened today ~ the kiddo's were cranky at school ~ must be the rainy weather! I hope the mood is better tomorrow!!! :-)
I am heading to the movies in a bit to see Spiderman 3 with my buddy, Gene. Has anyone seen it yet? I know I am behind on my movie watchin'. I stay that way! Gene didn't have a great day today either so we are hoping a movie will rejuvenate our spirits!!!
In bigger happenings, later this week, on Friday and Saturday, Kevin has a MAJOR catering gig. All good thoughts sent our way are more than welcome!!! It will be HOT - forecast is for 94 degrees both days, and we are outside!! He is catering burgers and hot dogs for 2,000 folks!!! yikes! He's done this before and knows what he's doing ~ I, on the other hand, have NO idea what I've gotten myself into!! LOL! Hope my blonde moments are kept to a minimum! hee-hee!
He is trying to start up a catering business and usually caters bbq. Although for this job, he converted his smoker into a smoker/grill, so now he set up to do just about anything. So...all you local folks, if you need a caterer, give us a call! :-)
**Update: Just got home from the movie, and it was AWESOME!! Go see it!!!

This and That...

Well...I am just now getting back to normal from Spring Break. Today is the first day I feel awake away! It ain't easy getting back on a schedule! ha! I did manage to get all my to-do list done over Spring Break, which feels good!!! I finally got my hitch on my Jeep, BUT (you knew it wouldn't be that easy!) the wiring kit Dad got was wrong....so.....now we have to get a different wiring kit and figure out when he can install that. THEN, we will finally be able to pick up the new camper!! Soon, Kim, Soon! I promise!!! :-) I am ready to get it home and set it up and get all my camping gear ready for the season. Ahhhh....good times ahead!!
Oh - I did manage to watch some of my DVD's that have been sitting there for years waiting to be watched! I can't seem to make myself sit still for that long very often, but after a hard day of working in the yard, a movie sounded good. (although some of them weren't!) I would recommend In Her Shoes and First Wives Club (funny). I also watched In Love and War with Sandra Bullock & it was ok. The worst movie was Friends With Money - don't even bother on this one!! It was one of those that you think "surely this is going somewhere", well, it didn't!
Nothing else really happening - having a good week at work, just busy with all the reports due. And, my big security dog was terrified of the storms last night and had to sleep in bed with me to keep from pacing...I am a sucker - I know! Ha!
Oh...and tomorrow I am getting highlights in my hair! yikes! You know, I am not a very good girly girl, but I am starting to see grey hair & this is supposed to hide it! Wish me luck! Around 6 o'clock tomorrow, I'll either love it or not want to go to work the next day! ha!

All better now...

Yesterday was YUCK! I was lazy all day Sunday b/c I didn't really feel 100%. Then, yesterday it hit! Sick! At lunch, I sat at my desk thinking if I can just make it two more hours, I can lay down. I made it and CRASHED! I slept from 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon until 6:15am this morning. Now, I know I can sleep alot, but I can only pull that off when I am truly sick!! ha!

There is something going around b/c my classroom yesterday was sneezing, coughing, complaining that their little throats were hurting, all day....we used hand sanitizer like mad!! We've just got 3 more days to make it, and then Spring Break will cure us all! :-)

Anyone looking for a good family movie to watch with the kiddos? I did manage to watch Flicka with Tim McGraw on Sunday. I will be honest ~ it isn't great, but it IS a good family flick. No cuss words & a good, but predictable story line. And, Tim looks yummy for the Mom's! ha! Although, I think he needs to stick to singing and leave the acting alone (sorry Mom!). The horses in the movie are gorgeous and so is the scenery (not just of Tim either ~ the real landscape scenery!).

A whole lotta nothing...

Well - I think I relaxed quite well today! I slept in and took a nap!! :-) In between, I even managed to sweep out the garage, do a little shoppin' and watch a movie! I officially only have Dad left to buy a Christmas present for & I have NO idea what to get him! Probably just going to swing by his favorite store (Harbor Freight) and get a gift certificate. The man will make a trip to Little Rock just to visit that place! It is a man's store for sure!! I wouldn't know the first thing about what to get in there, but he loves it!

I watched You, Me and Dupree tonight. If you haven't seen it ~ watch it! It came out on DVD this week & is laugh out loud funny! Owen Wilson makes the movie. I am a big Kate Hudson fan so I usually always like her in movies too. I haven't found a movie yet that makes me laugh as hard as Wedding Crashers did, but this one got me to giggle several times!

Happy Turkey Day!!!

Borat Movie

I don't even know what to say about this movie, and I've had a day to process it!! Kevin has been chopping at the bit to see it. After all the reviews, I was mildly curious. It is probably the most offensive movie I have ever seen! In parts, it is funny. And, many, many times, you think to yourself - you just can't say that! Or ~ I can't believe he just said that! There are soooo many that could easily be offended by different parts throughout the movie. I really don't know how to explain unless you see it & I don't recommend seeing it!

Here is an interesting article on it & some contraversy:
'Borat' Victims Upset at Being Duped
By ERIN CARLSON, Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK - While teaching American humor to a gregarious and absurdly out-of-touch foreign journalist, Pat Haggerty realized something was off _ who WAS this guy?

Haggerty, a public speaking coach from Washington, D.C., is one of the unwitting co-stars of the surprise hit movie "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit of Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan." Haggerty has no hard feelings toward Borat, a.k.a. comedian Sacha Baron Cohen _ but the same can't be said for others who were humiliated or even lost their jobs thanks to the awkward fellow with the bushy mustache.
Their embarrassment over the film's hilarious, cringe-inducing blend of fiction and improvised comedy is magnified by its success _ "Borat" has topped the box office two weeks in a row, earning a total of $67.8 million.

Last year, Haggerty agreed to be filmed for what he thought was a benign documentary on his client's journey across America. He hurriedly signed a release form, was paid $400, and the lesson began.
As cameras rolled, his client told raunchy stories in garbled English and laughed heartily at the expense of handicapped people. "And then, I'm starting to smell a rat," Haggerty told The Associated Press. "Each passing minute I'm going, you know, this can't be real."

Confused, he ended up playing along. He later figured out _ thanks to his son, an HBO-watching college student _ that he'd been duped.
Duped by Borat.

"They were exercising a First Amendment right," said Haggerty, adding that he enjoyed the movie. "And this Sacha Cohen guy's going to make 87 gazillion dollars. You know, good for him. I'm just sorry that he had to do it in such a way that he allowed people to make jerks out of themselves exposing their character flaws."

Two of Cohen's targets _ fraternity boys who made drunken, insulting comments about women and minorities _ are suing 20th Century Fox and three production companies. The lawsuit claims that a production crew took the students to a bar to "loosen up" before participating in what they were told would be a documentary to be shown outside of the United States, and that they signed waivers after drinking heavily. Studio spokesman Gregg Brilliant said the lawsuit "has no merit."

Cohen's behavior also wasn't funny to Dharma Arthur, who claims she was fired as a morning show producer in Jackson, Miss., after being duped into giving Cohen air time. Cohen's live appearance, in which he said he had to go "urine" and hugged a bemused weatherman, led her life into a downward spiral, she told the AP. She is seeking an apology.

Kathie Martin, who runs an etiquette school in Birmingham, Ala., was also left out of the joke. Even though she was gracious and calm when Borat showed her nude photos of his son, Martin admitted she was "taken aback" by his schtick during their on-camera meeting.
"Unless you can figure it out for yourself, you have no way of knowing you have been tricked into being part of a childish prank with an R rating attached," she told the AP via e-mail.
"And even if you figure it out, you've signed a release that Mr. Cohen's people say relinquishes any rights on your part to take action against them."

Ronald Miller, of Natchez, Miss., was baffled by the ruse. He and his wife attended a dinner at a plantation house, which they were told would be an interview with an "Eastern European television reporter coming to Natchez to film social customs in the South," he told the AP.
Borat disturbed guests, Miller said, by making anti-Semitic remarks and saying slavery was wonderful. He also invited a dinner guest _ a woman posing as a prostitute _ to join the group. The Natchez dinner was not included in movie.

Cohen's kerfuffle with Pamela Anderson, however, did make the cut. The "Baywatch" babe was attacked by his alter ego at a book signing, and he later chased her through a parking lot.

Did she learn of his antics in advance? Anderson's not telling.
"Unfortunately, Pamela is not doing any press interviews for `Borat,'" her spokeswoman, Tracy Nguyen, wrote in an e-mail.
"Regarding if it was a surprise or not, we'd like to leave it to the imagination. Pam loves Borat and Borat loves Pam."
