What 'cha think?

My man apparently can't handle me sleeping in past him - hee!hee! So, yesterday, he offers me a job. hmmm? What do you think? Should I sling burritos with him and help with caterings being delivered this summer? I mean, it's only for 8 weeks and only 2 days a week....it would give me something to do...or should I be lazy and stick to my to-do list at a leisurely pace??? Decisions....I think maybe IF he sticks to the promise of only 2 days a week, and we ride in together where I don't have to pay for gas! I am going to deliver a catering with him later today to see what it's all about.

(oh, and for those who are confused by the burritos - he works for a 'build your own burrito' restaurant right now as the catering manager. The BBQ is his catering on the side that will eventually, hopefully be our full-time business.)

Now ... do you see me as a burrito girl? HA!

BBQ Weekend

We did it!! It's over and today is rest and try to clean up day. My little kitchen just wasn't made to cater to 500 people out of - ha! We got up Saturday at 4 am and started getting the last of the stuff ready. It was hard work, and we had a steady line for several straight hours. But, Kevin and I make a great team at this (home improvement projects are a whole other story! hee-hee). Kevin, of course, is too hard on himself and doesn't think the BBQ was that great. He always says he could've done better...If it wasn't then please tell me WHY when they made an announcement on the intercom at the end of the day that we were having a "fire sale" and selling boston butts right off the grill, that he sold out in 2 min??? Do people come running for 'it was ok bbq'?? NO! One of these days, he will take his compliments! ha! We were seriously so busy that these were the only pictures I got. By the time we were finished, every muscle in my body was aching!!! But, I still have the catering bug! I love it! And, he was able to give out several of his cards and got another definite event booked from this - so yay!
Now - I have to go read some blogs and then get back to cleaning that kitchen...I should've taken a picture of that so you could appreciate the MESS - and the garage, and even the driveway where the smoker was parked all week! The neighbors have to be thrilled the smoker isn't sitting in the driveway anymore, but they all seemed to love the smell of the BBQ smoking! Kevin says it's the best cologne if he could bottle it! LOL!

Random Things...

• As of today, I have 3 days of school with my kids left. Today was originally the last day, (snow and tornado make-up's rest of week) and several of my kids may not come back after today. :-(
• My kiddo that was taken out of the home came back this week!! I was so worried that I wouldn't get to see her. When I gave her the scrapbook I made each one of them, she hugged hers and said, "I"m going to keep this forever!"
• I lost the laundry war between me & Kevin. I asked him two weeks ago to sort his laundry, and I would wash his clothes. I was swamped with other stuff and this is how he could help me. He never sorted. I never did the laundry. I thought it was a simply request. I dug in my heels. Well, now he is the one that is swamped and has no clean undies...hee-hee! I am a sucker and sorted his darn laundry last night and got it started. But next time....
• I started a new James Patterson book - finally! I am going to read, read, read all summer!
• Have I mentioned 3 school days left?
• Oh, and on Saturday, our BBQ catering has gone from 500 folks to 700!!! yikes! Anybody wanna come sling BBQ?

Busy, but good weekend

You know the weekend started with a girls night of scrapbookin'. There really is no better way to start a weekend! ha! It was a small group this time - just me, Laura & Laura (I gotta come up with nicknames - actually one of them I call funny girl - she's a hoot). But anyway, my friend Donna came for a bit too - remember the one that had the twins back in January. Her Mom is still here, so her and her Mom tried to bring the girls and get some scrappin' done. The twins were havin' none of it! ha! Seriously, I don't know how she keeps up with two of them. I freak out when ONE baby is crying and there were two of them going at it! yikes! Poor Kevin thinks he is cursed b/c they both started after or as he was holding them! hee-hee! So, poor Donna didn't get to stay long or get much done. BUT, she looks GREAT! (and somehow, I let them get away without taking a picture - I am slacking)

Saturday was spent getting ready for Kevin's catering job on Sunday and also getting some yard work done....the yard was a jungle! We catered for 50 Game and Fish folks (aka directors) at Lake Sylvia today. It was great...I really do love this catering stuff...you know I love to organize & there is alot to organize! ha!

Here is where we were:

It's kind of out in the middle of nowhere but gorgeous! Kevin cooked ribs, pulled pork, baked beans, baked potato salad, slaw, and almost Texas toast! We were going to have Texas toast but right after everyone got there, a huge storm hit and the power went out. We just kept on trucking...and pulled it off - except for the toast. yay!
Well, I am tired and MY ribs are about done...so until tomorrow...bye!

Catering 101

It has been yummy around here! Kevin has been catering lunch the past two for my cousin Sandy's office...I wish I could make your computer screens like a scratch and sniff and give you a whiff of the aroma around here the past two days! Yesterday was BBQ ~ the big grill now occupying the deck smelled like a slice of heaven!! And, Jax, the rotten dog, thought he WAS in heaven with all the scraps that fell on the floor or off the grill! LOL!

Today is lasagna!! I have requested he make us a dish off to the side!! I mean, we have to eat too!!! He has been working away in the kitchen all morning ~ I snuck in and got some pics!! If I were Oprah, this is where all your doorbells would ring and you would get to taste test the lasagna for yourselves! ha!

He is apparently no where near finishing sprucing these up ~ he adds stuff constantly! And, doesn't buy much from the store that isn't added to for a "better" flavor!

And, 3 1/2 years later, my kitchen is finally broken in and being used! My stove doesn't know what hit it! LOL!

We have spent our mornings until lunch getting ready for the catering, and I am spending my afternoons in the classroom trying to get it ready for school! Yesterday stressed me out!!! The teacher whose room I am moving into was there IN THAT ROOM for 20 years! Yesterday, I cleaned out her stuff ~ today, hopefully, I will start organizing mine!!

**If I temporarily disappear, we are trying to go wireless, and it didn't go well last night! Anyone else have wireless Internet?

Things that make you go hmmmm....

"What tomato? I don't see a tomato..."
"Ok Mom...It was me stealing the tomatoes. Sorry!"

Yep ~ that's right folks ~ no raccoon. It was the DOG!!! I caught him red-handed or I wouldn't believe it myself!! Who would've thought the dog would eat tomatoes!
Scrappin' night with my girlfriends is tomorrow night....think anyone wants a hot dog or hamburger? LOL! This is what my freezer looks like with the left-overs from last weekend's catering job!!!! AND, there are MORE hot dogs in the refrigerator!! yikes!
Have a good weekend! I should have some horse show pictures next week to share. My Mom and my niece are riding in a horse show this weekend!

I just thought I was exhausted yesterday!

It really hit this morning ~ every muscle in my body ached!! I took a lesson from my cat Nala's book today and laid around all day and napped off and on! :-)

The catering job is done and was a success! Not only that, Kevin has me roped in as his number one fan (not that it was that hard!). I just really didn't know what to expect, and I loved it! The people were great, and it was fun! I mean, there was constantly something to organize, and I am an organizing fool!! LOL! Friday was good, but Saturday was GREAT! By Saturday we all knew what to expect and had a system. I worked one table, Tanner worked the other, Kevin and his Mom worked one grill with the burgers, and his dad worked another grill with the hot dogs and beans. We ROCKED!!

It was a pretty big youth event ~ the state tournament for skeet shooting. So...there was gunfire in the background all day! ha! Kevin cooked 700 burgers on Friday and 1,000 on Saturday!!! And the line moved fast and steady, and the compliments were plentiful. I am so proud of Kevin!! He even was filmed for a show on AETN/PBS called either Cooking Arkansas or a segment on Arkansas Outside! (15 minutes of fame are up!)

Exhausted!!

Well...day 1 of the catering job is done! Whew! Tomorrow is expected to be even more busy! I can't imagine!!! But it went great! We were slammed at 11 o'clock when we started serving, but the lines moved fast (probably faster than the cooks at the HOT grill wanted them too sometimes!). It fizzled out about 12:30, and we were cleaned up and heading home by 1:45 pm - which was fine b/c we got up at 4:45 am!!! THAT is waaaay too early for me!! Here's what I learned - Kevin sings and whistles at 4:45 in the morning!!??!! I am NOT a morning person...as a matter of fact, I would prefer not to talk until I've been up for about an hour, and he's just singing and whistling AND talking!! I tried to be a good sport today though - hee-hee!

Kevin has his Dad working hard! The grill area was HOT!!

I have to take a minute to brag on Tanner ~ he was a HUGE help!! He never stopped. He kept those tables stocked and was so polite to everyone. I am just filled with pride that my cousin is growing up to be such a hardworking gentleman. Thanks Tanner!!

Wish us luck tomorrow ~ I have a feeling after tomorrow, I will crash AND not eat a hot dog or hamburger for awhile! ha!
